Evaluation Q.4

4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Well for our film to start off with we all to create a treatment each in the time before we came back together at the beginning of the A2 year of college. So in our group we all had different ideas but we all had to agree on one, but brought together different elements to create on final treatment. To start off with we had to create a blogger again to record our progress and research for our short film. To capture our moving shots we a used a Sony HVR-HD 1000E. From the camera we transferred what we had recorded to Final Cut Express, which is the software we used to create the film together. This software is actually the under version of Final Cut Pro which some low budget filmmakers may use. So the quality of work we produce from the software is good as we are using similar standard software. We have used effects from the software to put on our film; the main one we have used is the flash effect in the beginning title sequence as it matched as the title sequence a photo shoot of the main characters. Also involved with the title sequence we used actual flash photography as to make the photo shoot look realistic and the when it flashes it emphasizes the fame and that they’re in the spotlight. For the photo shoot we were in the college studio using white background screen, for the camera is as a Canon EOS 1000D with flash light units attached so create the right atmosphere and created the flash we wanted. For our voiceovers were created by zoom recorder. A member of the group created a voiceover script so then we knew what was to be put in the film and where to put it in. To help our treatment become more of a reality, a storyboard was created so we know what shots would be needed of what is happening in the film at that moment of time. As so our theory developments are on the blog and you can see in it how the preparation came around and that still individually we all had our own ideas. A major issue what happened that massively impacted our film progress is that one of our members was in a car crash and his car is a major prop in the film. So this was a major fault as the car was involved in the majority of the scenes so as soon as we filmed the scenes that were without, it was basically twiddling out thumbs waiting for a replacement car as the crash wasn’t as simple as a repair. So after the whole commotion we were then able to get back on track about the filming we needed to do. To say we were lacking behind from filming time we caught up at some similar standard. Another problem that happened when importing the film is that the sound didn’t quite link with the video but it was easily fixed but it was a bit of hassle. On the positive side there was some good turn out from the scenes we did. Such as in the scene where Connor leaves the house to buy the drugs, well the ending of that scene Brett created some skid marks on the road from driving off which wasn’t planned to be done but created the right effect which was needed even though it wasn’t thought about. Also I believe that we had a good choice of music, which is “I Am Not Left Handed – Boats But Not The Ocean”. This song is just completely in sync to our film from tone, words; it’s as if it was mad for our film. I do like the turn way we have even though we did have some major faults put we got back up.
